A brief story or history

A brief story or history
A short story
by
David Alberto Muñoz

A group of teenagers were discussing the history of our nation. They were talking about freedom, the ability to protest, the freedom of expression, religion and all the “privileges” this nation gives each and every one of us, regardless who we are and what culture we might have.

Out of that conversation, these voices came out.

***

These men must repent of their sin. They need to change every aspect of their lives, otherwise God would not forgive them.  Just look at them! They are savage, ungodly. Why do they not listen? They are stubborn, uneducated, real savages as I have said.  They cannot even understand the things we say. Did you hear what Tomo-chi-chi or what’s his name say? He is a Yamacraw leader living in the coast of Georgia. He said:

“Why these are Christians at Savannah! Christians drunk”! Christians beat men! Christians tell lies! I’m not Christian!”

He just doesn’t understand the will of God. What they are doing is a heresy. They are idolaters. They are sinking in sin. They need help. We will help them even though they fight us, even though they hate us. We will transform them and make them all Christian, according to the Scriptures and according to the real God.

These men came out of nowhere. They had bodies of steel, they were on top of animals we have never seen. They had weapons that use fire to destroy us. We could not compete. They have left all this hate among my people. All they talk about is their God, their God is love, full of compassion, and he will forgive you, but we have to change everything about us, even the way we dress. Our religion, which is our way of life. They have no respect for nature. They took our children and put them away in schools in order for them to learn the way of their God. How can you expect to teach a child that your God is better than the God of his parents by killing them, by torturing them, by imposing a new way of life within the child? That is not fair. You destroyed our communities, you killed our shamans, you want to erase every sign of our existence… and you say your God is love? I’m sorry… but I don’t believe so.

You lied… I am not a Christian.

These were the two perspectives of two completely different type of people. The real Natives of America, and the invaders, the Europeans. And this is part of our American history.

Have we learned anything?
